Recently, Pakistan’s first Electric Powered Transportation System i.e. The Orange Line Metro Train was inaugurated by CM Usman Buzdar in Lahore. The project was one of the many developmental projects of CPEC, a corridor under China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
A special Punjab Committee overseeing CPEC’s progress in the province called a meeting on 6th November to discuss the addition of more developmental projects in the region. The meeting concluded with agreeing on a few more energy generation, agricultural and telecommunication projects for Punjab. All the committee members believe that China’s expertise in Agriculture and advanced technology should be taken advantage of as much as possible.
A new hydropower project named Taunsa Hydropower Plant was proposed in the meeting to meet the rising energy demand of the project. Moreover, the provincial finance minister was directed to structure a proposal for establishing Business Parks in the province. Effective ways to improve the number of people getting benefitted from the Orange Line project were also discussed. It is to be noted that the Chairman of CPEC Authority, Asim Bajwa, announced 250 more jobs for the Orange Line Metro Train project in October.
