Free Coronavirus Vaccine Provision in Pakistan – April 2021

The Coronavirus Immunization Drive will begin in April 2021 and the Government of Pakistan planning to provide the vaccine free of cost. According to Nausheen Hamid, the Parliamentary Secretary on Health has confirmed the approval of the PTI government for funds needed to purchase the vaccine doses.

Recently, Chughtai signed a deal with the American pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, for the COVID-19 vaccines. However, the vaccine the Pakistani government plans to provide free of cost will be from China. This Chinese vaccine is in the third phase of clinical trials. Right now, the country is shaken by the second wave of the virus causing 3000 plus cases every day. The number of patients who have lost their lives due to COVID-19 has reached 8303 now. While Sindh has the highest number of cases, the death rate is significantly higher in Punjab.
